The white & blue city of the Atlantic: Essaouira

This fortified white and blue city is rich in history and an invitation to wander at leisure. Home to many artists and musicians, it has also been reputed since ancient times for some of the most skilled marquetry craftmanship in Morocco. An arched passageway leads to a souk where over 150 craftsmen exhibit their painstaking work on cedarwood to the fascination of visitors. Argan oil is another Essaouiran speciality. You will have lunch at the port or in a traditional restaurant in the medina. On the return journey to Marrakesh, we will stop 15 km outside the city to visit potters demonstrating their use of tadelakt, the ancestral chalk-based decorative art unique to Morocco with its extraordinary array of colours.
